Spotlight Story Jessica Burns

Meet Jessica Burns, the founder of Jessica B Styling based in Salt Lake City, Utah. A former teacher turned personal stylist, Jessica’s journey into fashion wasn’t planned—it evolved out of daily life, motherhood, and a need to feel like herself again.

From Classroom to Closet

Before launching her styling business, Jessica spent 10 years teaching elementary and preschool. Known as the “in-house stylist” by her coworkers, fashion advice was just something that came naturally. But after relocating from Ohio to Utah and stepping away from the workforce, Jessica experienced a shift.

“I went from getting dressed every day to living in leggings and sweats,” she said. “It was a tough season.” It wasn’t until she joined a local mom group that she noticed a pattern—on the one day she got dressed, she felt better, more productive, and more like herself.

That spark led her to start Jessica B Styling—a business dedicated to helping other women, especially moms, reconnect with themselves through personal style.

Petite and Powerful

As someone who stands 5’1”, Jessica understands petite struggles intimately. That lived experience shapes how she works with her clients. “I always make sure to measure inseams and rises. I want my clients to walk away knowing what works for them and why.”

Her styling philosophy is grounded in education. “The teacher in me never left. I want my clients to learn—not just to look good, but to understand how to dress their bodies well.”

Jessica also loves busting fashion myths, especially the idea that petite women can’t wear oversized silhouettes. “It’s all about balancing proportions,” she says.

A Go-To Pair of Jeans and a Styling Breakthrough

Jessica recalls a client who swore she could never wear wide-leg denim. “I encouraged her to just try a pair. Once we styled them correctly, they became her absolute favorite jeans.” It’s moments like that—when a client’s mindset shifts—that energize her work.

Styling Motto: Good Style Can Be Learned

From mood boards to closet edits, Jessica approaches each client with curiosity, strategy, and patience. She believes everyone can develop a personal style that reflects who they are—and that petite women deserve that just as much as anyone else.

What’s Next

While Jessica’s keeping her focus on delivering exceptional value to her clients right now, she’s always evolving. And her favorite part? Hearing from clients after their sessions. “The messages I get from women saying how much this changed their day-to-day life—that never gets old.”

My Take:

Good Style, Great Energy, Even Better Perspective

I absolutely love stylists. Admittedly, when I was younger, I used to think, why would anyone pay someone to tell them how to dress? I mean, who doesn’t know how to get dressed? But now I know—plenty of us. People who don’t have time. People who appreciate the value of someone who understands body types, personal style, or how to make you look amazing for a specific event.

There’s a reason celebrities look flawless on the red carpet: stylists.

As my own love for fashion started to fade, I realized it wasn’t the clothes or the trends that turned me off—because let’s be real, my credit card can confirm I have no problem shopping. The stress comes from trying to put the pieces together, or hunting down that one perfect outfit that says what you want it to say without losing your mind in the process.

That’s why I love what Jessica does. She took her gift for educating and channeled it into helping women find themselves again—through style. That’s not just fashion. That’s a form of self-expression. And honestly, it’s powerful.
